5 Rules For Layering Skin Care Products

5 RULES FOR LAYERING YOUR
SKIN CARE PRODUCTS

Figuring out exactly what products to use on your skin is important, but it’s just as essential to know in what order to use them. Chances are you rely on a number of different gels, creams, serums, and oils for your morning and nighttime routines. By layering them in the correct order, you’ll increase their efficacy and reap more of their benefits. Check out Beautycounter’s five rules for simplifying the art of skin care layering.

RULE #1
Go from light to heavy.

As a general rule of thumb, apply your products from thinnest to heaviest. Why? If you apply a thick moisturizer first, your lightweight serum won’t be able to penetrate it.

RULE #2
Try a face oil.

Face oils function just like moisturizers, so they can actually be used in place of acream moisturizer. For extra hydration, though, you can apply a face oil right before moisturizer or mix it in with a cream formula.

RULE #3
Give it time.

Allow products to sink in for at least 30 seconds before applying the next one, giving your skin adequate time to fully absorb each formula.

RULE #4
Pat, don’t rub.

Just as the order of your products matters, so does your method of application. It’s best to press the formula into your skin—it’s gentler than pulling and dragging and helps quicken absorption.

RULE #5
Save SPF for last.

Because it sits on top of your skin, sunscreen or products containing SPF should go on after you’ve completed the other steps in your routine, like oil and serum, and right before you apply makeup.

Radiance Firming Complex

Beautycounter Radiance Firming Complex is like a serum, but richer and creamier. It hydrates skin while working overtime to combat the appearance of wrinkles and discoloration. Hydrolyzed Algin, Chlorella Vulgaris, and Algae Marine Extracts supply hydration while Mixed Fruit Acid Complex and Boerhavia Diffusa Root Extract work to brighten skin tone. Ginger Root Extract fights redness and irritation. Use morning and night. Massage gently into face, neck, and décolleté with upward strokes.

72% OF WOMEN SHOWED A SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN SKIN FIRMNESS AFTER 8 WEEKS OF USE.*

– Creamy formula hydrates while it firms

– Leaves skin feeling tight and refreshed

– Non-sticky consistency layers smoothly under Uplifting Day Cream or Restorative Night Cream

– Improves skin texture and firmness

Radiance Firming Complex does not include DMDM hydantoin, a common preservative that works by releasing formaldehyde, a known carcinogen that prevents the growth of microorganisms. Formaldehyde releasing preservatives are present in approximately 20% of cosmetics and personal care products in the United States, so consumers are frequently exposed to this toxic chemical.

*Results based on independent, 8-week, 25-subject, single-blind clinical and consumer perception study.
